Dia.gnosis: Carolina Conference for Romance Studies

March 30, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - April 1, 2017 @ 9:00 pm

[“Dia.gnosis”–The 23rd Annual Carolina Conference for Romance Studies]

The Graduate Romance Association of the Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill would like to welcome professors, students, and independent scholars to the website for the Carolina Conference for Romance Studies. Over the past twenty-two years, our conference has grown tremendously and is now one of the largest conferences in the country coordinated entirely by graduate students. Each year, professors and graduate students from all over the globe present papers on literature, film, and interdisciplinary topics in French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.

For the second year, we are taking advantage of the shift in our Department’s focus–reflected in our name change from “Languages and Literatures” to “Romance Studies”–to re-envision our long-standing conference. Principal among our changes, we now request that all papers be presented in English. A common presentation language allows us to be more inclusive as we move towards an interdisciplinary conference defined thematically rather than by language.

The title of this year’s conference is Dia.gnosis. It will be held from March 30 to April 1, 2017. We are very honored to announce our two invited speakers for this year, Deborah Jenson of Duke and Massimo Riva of Brown and our invited artist, Greg Lindquist.

The conference website can be found at: ccrs.unc.edu.
