Writing Group
The Writing Group is a graduate student-led organization that meets monthly to read, review, and comment upon graduate student writing. Open to all graduate students regardless of year or track, it provides a collaborative space for discussing the craft of writing. Students pre-submit work for which members of the group provide verbal and written feedback during each meeting. All stages and types of writing are welcome, from rough drafts to near-final versions, from seminar and conference papers to thesis and dissertation chapters. Feedback can include everything from line edits to suggestions for improving organization and clarity of ideas.
By showcasing different students’ writing during each meeting, Writing Group exposes participants to the types of writing unique to different fields. Participants can also benefit from particular students’ specific areas of expertise, such as the ability to successfully adapt seminar papers into articles. In addition to monthly meetings, the Writing Group will hold Reli Round Tables on the craft of writing and provide resources for those who want to start writing groups of their own.
