Ory Amitay, University of Haifa (Department of General History)

Alexander in Jerusalem: A Brief Survey

The extensive body of research on the story of Alexander’s visit to Jerusalem, made up in antiquity and persistently popular ever since, has been focused so far mainly on the version of Josephus. The Alexander in Jerusalem project takes a different approach, giving an equal share of attention also to the epsilon recension of the Alexander Romance and to two distinctly different rabbinic versions. The talk will offer a brief survey of conclusions concerning the chronology and tendencies of the four tradition branches, with an afterthought on what history may lie behind them all.

The lecture will take place on Monday, April 8 from 5:00-6:30 pm in Murphey 104. All are welcome!
