Free Screening of “Echoes from the Plantation” (Documentary)

March 1, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The general public is invited to attend a free screening of “Echoes from the Plantation,” a documentary drama about the history of Indians in Guyana.

During 1838, after the British ended the transatlantic slave trade, Indians, contracted as indentured servants, were sent to Guyana to work on the sugar cane plantation. This film will shed light on the history of a very rich culture in South America. For more information about the film, please visit https://echosfromtheplantation.com. A link to a music video from the film, praising the Hindu Goddess Durga, the divine mother of the universe, can be found here.

Co-sponsored by the UNC Department of History, Department of Romance Studies, Department of Religious Studies, and the Caribbean Students Association.
